Scholarship Awards

1. Carl Samans Award ($1500 – One Award)

The Carl Samans Award is a memorial award in honor of Dr. Carl Samans. Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Samans was a member of ASM for 47 years, past president and trustee of ASM International, Assistant Director of Research for American Oil (Amoco) and served on the faculty of Lehigh University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Penn State University. The purpose of this award is to recognize and encourage outstanding students to continue their pursuit of a career in materials science and metallurgical engineering. The award is for $1500 and goes directly to the student.

2. Chicago Regional Chapter Award ($1000 - One Award)

The Chicago Regional Chapter Award recognizes and encourages students to pursue careers in the materials science and metallurgical engineering at any of the educational institutions in the Chicago region. The award is for $1000 and goes directly to the student.

Eligibility Requirements

All undergraduate students beyond Freshman year majoring, or considering study of Material Science, Metallurgical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (concentration in the material applications only) at any of the Chicago regional institutions, including the Illinois Institute of Technology, Northwestern University, Northern Illinois University (Naperville) and University of Illinois at Chicago are eligible.
